Jennifer steps out of the studio to launch Learn to Sew - Fashion & Lifestyle Classes.
Learning to sew at age 6 commenced a rich creative journey - a childhood experiencing crafts and developing fine machine sewing skills.
Formal Tertiary Education in Fashion Technology prompted two decades to now, on the creative edge of the broader fashion industry. Jennifer has designed and sewn for professional theatre, international entertainers also creating soft furnishings.
All the while developing formal girlswear label Jennifer Catherine Design. Haute Couture for little girls! Jennifer designed childrenswear in the 80’s for an appreciative private client base in the Illawarra and Sydney. Then, to specialise in Flowergirl gowns, a niche market, developing a brand, wholesale supplying the Bridal industry, finally to become the ‘online’ Seamstress making to measure beautiful gowns for international clients ages 2-12yrs.
Jennifer has conducted childrenswear classes for adults, children’s learn to sew and was a consultant for a major sewing machine company.
Culminating now, with the renewed interest in sewing and the needlecrafts. Returning with a contemporary twist to a new wider demographic. Generation X, who missed the experience previously, and younger generation Y, craving life balance by creative escape in a technology drenched, fast-paced time.
Jennifer’s program will again invite children to absorb and benefit from the fun and invaluable experience of learning to sew.
Romantic in one sense, from generations and times past, then totally practical and even Eco-Friendly by remake and reuse, rejecting high consumption.
Classes will incorporate the basic elements of How to Sew, creating simple relevant fashion and lifestyle items.Students will learn to use commercial domestic sewing patterns.
Jennifer will discuss current trends in Fashion, Interior Decorating, Soft Furnishings and Textiles. Holding a Diploma in Colour Design, Jennifer enhances the experience presenting seasonal colours including latest directions from mainstream and boutique paint companies.
